Participatory World View!

Effective Engagement Toolkit!

Fingers crossed ENVS3007 content won't be as annoying jargon-ey as the content of the background readings. Also, I'm seriously concerned if primary school children's drawings are as widely used a source for future community planning as many of these case studies imply. In the future, we'll all have scribble hair styles! ... Is fatigue making me cynical? Probably. I'm actually looking forward to starting the course on Monday. Holy crap. It starts next monday. I should stop updating my LJ and get back to the readings.

03:47 pm - Halp?
Would anyone be interested in helping me with the script for a comic I intend to draw during my upcoming holiday course and semester time? I'm after a basic proofread to make sure it all makes sense (a challenge in a comic format where speech bubbles must be brief, and not too disjointed). This will be the first time I'll have scripted the whole comic before drawing it (time to kick the terrible habit of pictures first, words later).

It'd be quite short (I don't want to chain myself to illustrating a neverending epic), and I should have a script draft done within a week from now.

The plot revolves around a scandal involving conspiracy, public servants, and toothpaste. Also, it shall have much coffee content.

I'm looking for someone who I've not discussed Negalegs with very much, as I predict my biggest issue will be engaging the reader with an alien protagonist who they can identify with, but has some definitely alien traits. Also, I need to see if my introduction to the functioning of the human/negaleg society is interesting without being confusing or clichéd.

I shall repay with request art of any sort.

Any takers?

11:46 am - Some overdue photos
Though he looks smooth and confident now it is over, Langley looked somewhat haggard during his molt.

He reminds me a bit of a mech - sticking up bits are extra shielding :P

10:43 am - La la la la la
Whee, that was a lovely sleep in.

Yesterday morning was very productive - I talked to Conrad about the gecko children's book, selected and bought this new monitor, and bought coffee for Mum. After the blood test, however, my productivity went down the drain. Having set up the monitor (damned base didn't want to attach to the screen), I spent the rest of the day reading ROM pit reviews over on Something Awful, and watching old Angry Video Game Nerd videos... Until Tahlisen arrived, and I showed her Ghostbusters. This is my fifth watching within a year (before then I'd not seen it at all), and this time through I picked up
a) The foreshadowing of Mr. Stay Pufft (Dana buys marshmellows alongside the eggs that cook themselves)
b) The fact that there are a total of seven times when someone says "shit".
ZOMG.

Thankfully my arm is only a little achey today and I've lost that woozy feel, so here's hoping I can complete my Evil To Do List Of Doom
  • Finish everyone's birthday gifts (for birthday parties in July)
  • Finish Scott's picture
  • Make changes Conrad suggested to Gecko book
  • Help mum with her flyer
  • Finsh off all the unfinished art and projects I've had lingering
  • Draw a Negaleg in a hazmat suit
  • Work out my timetable for this coming semester
  • Start on birthday gifts (for August birthdays)

I'd better go feed my cute, hungry lizard :)

    04:36 pm - New Monitor
I have a new monitor (Samsung 2233SW) and it is SWEET.

I was previously using Snarfie's old CRT monitor, which was much better than my very old monitor, but still had colour and shade fidelity issues.

Now I can finally feel confident that art I produce won't look odd on everyone else's screens.

I was going to spend the afternoon drawing in CS4 to celebrate, but my blood test has left me too woozy to really concentrate properly... So I've just been catching up on old Angry Video Game Nerd videos. Classic.

Tonight, Tahlisen is coming over (she's not seen Ghostbusters, and ye, I must educate her).

    MONITOR OF WIN.

Langley's leg scales were peeling off today in such a way it looked like his leg was horribly broken. I got a shock, and he moved to show me it was just flaking scales. I swear I heard a quiet little lol coming from his general direction...

    06:21 pm - Productivity!
Yesterday I FINALLY got my proof of age card. At nearly 21, I now have a shiny bit of plastic certifying I'm over 18. Woo.

I've spent most of today working on the (long overdue) new banner for the Keogh research group's website. It consists of a series of pictures of the various reptiles and amphibians they've studied over the years, and is taking AGES because
    a) There's a lot of different animals to fit in
    b) It is for a scientific team, so I'm being very picky and using a gazillion references to get the animals exactly right.
I'm about halfway through, I'd rather not show it around until Scott has it up on his site, but for now, here's a glorious preview of Jackson's chameleon.
You'd not believe me if I told you how long just that little bit took. While I'm constantly frustrated at my ineptitude, I'm really glad to finally be getting this done, and I guess I'm learning a lot as I go.

I say I spent most of the day working on it, because I got a little distracted by Cube Zero, the third in the Cube series (creepy canadian cube-based horror sci fi). Some of the traps grossed me out horribly, but I REALLY enjoyed the ending and how it ties into the original Cube movie. Excellent. If disturbing.

Thanks to lots of work yesterday, I'll be able to finish up everyone's birthday gifts/cards tonight, so with any luck I'll be able to start on my Devious Plan for a certain birthday gift tomorrow. Here's hoping it'll be done in time... *shifty eyes*

Also, go watch this animation I iz made.

    10:26 am - Hey ya'll
Went to see the second Transformers movie with Snarfie yesterday. I really enjoyed all of the explosions and robots, and found myself able to overlook the multiple plot holes and things that made no sense. The camera didn't stop moving ONCE, even in the quieter scenes, so it was a very draining movie to watch. 'Twas good, though.

Langley is mid-moult, he is very grumpy and itchy and I'm getting sympathetically itchy (seriously, I can't stop scratching my back, it is disturbing my sleep). He ate his first salad yesterday - some bits of lettuce - from my hand, so I'm in full gooze mode. I'm keeping the bigger bits of his moulted skin sticky taped to a bit of paper, kind of like keeping baby teeth. Awww.

I've been steadily ploughing through all of the stuff I need to get done, but I gave myself yesterday off and thus did little but clean the house and play Oblivion. Maaaan it was good. I'll give myself another Oblivion break once I've finished my current to do list, which consists of the picture for Scott, and Ben, Michaela, and Meaghan's birthday gifts, finishing currently unfinished art and animation, and then sorting Snarfie and Peri's birthday gifts.

I finished watching Season 3 of Dexter. I really like the way the story arc went this season, though it is beginning to annoy me how crappy Deb is at choosing a boyfriend. Srsly.

I'm off to see a movie with Mum (Night and the Museum 2 - we've not seen the first one, but Mum liked the look of the trailer), and then hunt down various birthday giftage.

Oh, here's some pictures I finished:

Is finally updated with all the past semester's stuff. Took all day/evening/night. Phew.

Click here to see, it has study and pictures and stuff.

I've now hit the milestone of having taken more than my body weight in notes, and I'm not even finished the degree! (maybe I should try putting on some more weight, mnnn)

Will update in a more robust way tomorrow. Probably.

You know you've overslept when even your lizard gets up before you, despite dark and cold.

I had a great day yesterday - all I really did was house work, but now piles of stuff that has been bugging me is all in order and neat. Also, I gave Langley's tank a super-duper clean, and even though he didn't like being put in the box for longer than usual, I think he appreciated his lovely clean surroundings. Badminton in the evening was fun, and Snarfie looked very spiffy in his NSFW t-shirt (our Threadless orders have come in! Yay!)

Today I hope to finish updating AequetusSAYZ, and get a move on with overdue pics. Hopefully at some point there will also be time for some long, long overdue gaming.

Also - isn't it interesting how music can be marked by what you were doing when you first listened to it. Just as Scooter's music relates to Spider Man 2 in my mind, And One's stuff is now somehow Ghostbusters-ey in my head. Mnn.

I am very stinky. Must go bathe.

    11:59 pm - Stuff
Seeing as Trinalin's wonderful LJ subscription gift is near running out, I decided to pay up for more time. I thus felt obliged to do a little something about my chronic under userpic usage. Made some new icons, focusing on areas I've been neglecting, and still trying to make 'em things I'd actually use:

    For when I'm feeling predatory

    GRUMPEH

I want to be like Kirby someday. Maybe not so pink, though.

King Koopa was great, he made the Super Mario Brothers movie enjoyable. "They say a girl always remembers the first time she's kissed by a lizard"... Well, yeah, I guess being molested by a humanoid dinosaur would be a rather memorable experience. It'd probably drastically increase your likelihood of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

"I collect spores, moulds and fungus". Does this mean he discards non mould or fungus spores once they germinate? Egon is creating orphans! OH NOES. *achem*

I'm definately out of practise in the ol' icon making game. What do people think of 'em?

    Drew some stuff.

    03:52 pm - WHEEE I'M FREE
    Exams are dooonneeee YAY!

I feel like I went quite well, though as always I over-revised. I managed to finish just on time :)

Mum and Dad were so helpful with my revision, I wanted to buy them a special thankyou beer. But the man at the grog store wouldn't accept my Uni ID and so I couldn't buy them. I'm frikkin 20, and I'd have a frikkin' proof of age card if the fartheads at Canberra Connect weren't such pedants (I've been thrice, but they've always found a minor problem with my paper work. WHAT MORE SHOULD THEY NEED THAN A BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND PHOTOGRAPHIC ID DAMMIT Grumble grumble grumble... Argh. So I got them lollies instead. Also, I couldn't get Langley's crickets because the pet store had closed.

My crafty plan to watch Ghostbusters on the way home on my pocket PC went very well indeed, it was an excellent way to blot out the bag lady sitting next to me who would periodically spit phlegm on the ground between us as we waited half an hour for the bus. *shudder*

Also, I now have lots of shiny And One on my iPod. Om nom nom nom.

Well, I'm off to get started on the bazillion house work and other tasks I've been horridly neglecting.

08:33 pm - Acetycholesterase Inhibitors IN THE FACE
Verdammt Acetycholesterase, velanfaxine and nefazodone. They consistently resist my attempts to remember their names. *shakes fist impotently*

Apart from that, I feel almost sort-of ready for my Abnormal psychology exam tomorrow morning. I've re-read the textbook twice, done all of its online supplement exercises, answered all of its questions, and watched all its videos... And I've re listened to the lectures and re-read the lecture slides many times, and made lists of the things I keep forgetting, each time shaving a few concepts off. I now have half a page of drug names and prevalence rates.

Langley's been a wonderful companion, even though he's a little self-inflated (literally, he puffs himself up to look tough and it looks comical because his legs are so little). He's been very understanding and doesn't mind I've postponed his tank clean until tomorrow, when the exams will be over.

After tomorrow's exam, I'm deviously planning to have coffee with fellow exam-completers, and pick up some chocolates for Mum and Dad (to thank them for their revision help) and crickets for Langley (to thank him for his calming presence) on the way home. I may or may not purchase copious junk food for myself. I'm looking forward to finally finishing The Stone Rose iPod book (I've had 20 minutes of it left for weeks now), and re-watching Ghostbusters to see if Egon is as awesome as I remember. Sure, it took half an hour and three different program downloads to convince my pocket PC to play the frikkin' file, but I now have it all ready to go for my bus-time consumption. Om nom nom.

Well, I'm off for a final readthrough of my notes (if it takes less than an hour it'll be the penultimate readthrough as I shall read again tomorrow morning) and a last ditch attempt to smush those cruddamn drug names and prevalence rates into my head (HOW DARE YOU HAVE A 6% PREVALENCE RATE DYSTHEMIA I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY 2% AND NOW YOU'VE MADE ME MAD). I slept like crap last night, so I'll prevail upon some capsules of sleepiness to aid me in my rest this fine eve.

    ...

P.S. please only place Acetycholesterase Inhibitors in your face if you suffer from Dementia and have evaluated the temporary reprieve it will grant you in your cognitive deterioration in terms of its many nasty side effects

    10:46 pm - Brrrr.
Langley had his first shave this morning - his beard is moulting. He looked very rugged and handsome with a couple of little scales sticking up, but I think he's got the hand of using a razor (aka scraping his head against his rock) to neaten himself up a bit.

Had a lovely dinner with Snarfie and his parental units last night. Cooked dinner for mum and dad tonight, yay, nachos (with avocado, none of this cop-out sour cream bollocks)

Study continues - I have all the general concepts down pat, now all I need to do is remember specific brain regions, medications, and percentages of occurrence in the population (for an Abnormal psych exam this Wednesday).

Good Game's review of Ghostbusters has got me in a Ghostbusters mood. I'm still deeply confused by the movie, specifically its target audience (kid plot, crude jokes, wtf) - they certainly don't make 'em like that anymore.

    10:02 pm - Phew!
I had my Developmental Psychology exam today, I think it went OK, but I am mainly glad to be finished that subject. It was such a shame - the textbook was well written and laid out, the lecturer was engaging and approachable, but the content (infants and children) was absolutely unengaging to me. I'm unbelievably glad I will no longer be confronted with mucus-leaking baby faces in my notes.

Righto, so now I've cleaned my room, Langley's tank, the computer room, and myself. I've responded to all outstanding emails and DeviantART messages, re-filled my iPod with music (it chucked a tantrum and lost my previous selection), and deleted all the no longer needed lecture notes off my desktop.

I was going to play some Oblivion, but as always, I've not got enough time for that.

So, I shall watch some Newgrounds, read some Aussie Sci Fi and sleep. I'll have a day off with Snarfie on the morrow (mental health break), to be followed by more study for my last exam. Yaaay. Exciting.

P.S. Here are the two pictures I drew for birthdays but didn't have time to upload before now:
